At the age of 49, in 1979, I had a stroke. A major stroke. I was not expected to live BUT I fooled them all. My husband got me three New Zealand rabbits to care for. I could not talk but I could mumble and as I talked to my rabbits I improved. I could talk to them and they would not laugh at me. A little girl next door would come over and we would sing the A B C song and as I practiced it all came back.

Where I come from and where I am now.

I live in North Central Texas in the country side of Purdon. Half way between Waco and Corsicana Texas. My husband built me a rabbit barn for 100 rabbits to start with. We added waterers and hung cages. I got some Californian rabbits and then I happened upon the English Lop Rabbit. A most magnificent rabbit. I had a pair to start with and from there they multiplied like rabbits do. I didn't know there was an American Rabbit Breeders Association until my uncle told me about it. ARBA is the best thing that ever happened to me. I learned and learned and learned. At the age of 72 now, I am still learning. You never are too old to learn something. The Rabbit people are something else. Most helpful.

I lost my life partner Nov. 1, 2001 of cancer of the esophagus. If I had not had my rabbits I wouldn't have known what to do. I now have a rabbit barn that will house 200 rabbits, It is 40x42'. Due to the illness of my husband I dropped out of showing for a while. Either my husband would get better or pasaway. The later happened. After 47 years of marriage I was lost without him. I know in my heart that he would want me to go on to bigger things and I did this year. I am 10th in the nation and will receive a plaque on November 5th at the National Convention.

If you are ever in the state of Texas look me up. My phone is 903-673-2889 and my e-mail address is JLaubscher@ev1.net

I now raise English Lops, Velveteen Lops and Lionhead Rabbits. I was Third in the state of Texas and 10th in the Nation in English Lops. I just love the English Lops, they are my first true love in rabbits. I just love their personality. Each one is different. My goal is to find a Chocolate English Lop. I have heard of them but never seen them.

My Grad Champion Rabbit

This is Sunshine. She was my pride and joy. She won her share of BOV's. and lived to the ripe old age of 9 years old.

She had an ear span of 25 3/4" x 5 3/4" and weighed 12 1/2 pounds.

Velveteen Lops
They took an English Lop Doe and a Mini Rex Buck, many years ago and it has taken about 12 years and we now have a small English Lop rabbit with rex fur. They are beautiful. Every time I breed I get a smaller animal, with beautiful fur. They have longer than 15 inch ears and weigh about 5 to 6 pounds. The Lionhead Rabbit
If you want to see the Lionhead rabbit you go to Bob Whitman's web site and peek. They are a most unusual rabbit as is most of Bob's rabbits are.
